Rotidilla

Yes!

For the first time in my life, tasted a cheese quasedilla, at a Taco Bell during our Santa Barbara trip and I really liked it. At that time, I also relized that it was the Mexican equivalent of the aloo paratha, except the cheese takes the place of the Aloo.

For the last two weeks, have been wanting to try making a Rotidilla(A word I am copyrighting right now.. Google search shows zero results).

Today that dream has come true. San had some mini roti's leftover after the kids had their tiffin and ...

Behold, the Rotidilla!!!

Had to hold the video camera like a phone to take the video (San was busy minding the kids who were hell bent on peeking into the garbage container.. apparently a garbage container is more fun than toys, books, etc.)

Next week, will add some spice to the Rotidilla and try to use less cheese (we have to listen to the critics!). It is high time some one started mixing Cheddar Cheese and Sambar powder!

I have two kids who will volunteer to taste and give me feedback ...

Sundar..

Try making it through the sandwich maker, it comes out neatly ,,did the same thing when i was at home the first year and avoided burning my hands on the tava :)

sundar, I lived on the Taco Bell quesadilla during our recent California road trip, not because I wanted to, but because the only other choice was the 7-layer burrito.
Try the Mexican pizza (without the meat) next time. It's an applam with beans and cheese, and delicious.

You haven't had a cheese quesodilla before! How did you manage to escape the stuff for so long when you live in a state that is 50% Chicano?

sundar annah, I don't know if you've tried this but tomato chutney(Spicy), shredded cheese and roti on a sandwich maker is fantastic. Of course hot sauce on what you made or some sort of spicy salsa would also do the trick.

This gives you the spice and shredded cheese lets you control the cheese content.

There are soo many things wonderful sandwich makers make* I've got this 4 plate changer thing, it allows you to change to pannini, waffle, sandwich and grill maker*

I'd definetely be interested in finding out if sambar and cheese works.

s. thanks!

anu, sivajini... any info on the brand names of these fancy sandwich makers ??? where to buy etc would be greatly appreciated!

terri, will try!

lak, dude I take it you have not been to our area..

in a place where I can get 3 rotis and sabji for 3 bucks (well it sis 4 bucks now!) in 10+ places within a five mile radius.. it is possible to not have to go taco!

plus the wife used to call Jr. "my nacho cheese chalupa"!!!! when Jr. was still inside her tummy.. somehome that turned me away from taco bell..

MND, thanks. your kids are the best judges for your cooking skills.. they are brutally honest and are not afraid to say "it is not nice"..

:)

I'm from Toronto, I got mine at Canadian Tire
http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672152&bmUID=1201033828632&PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443300646&assortment=primary&fromSearch=true

I'm pretty sure they don't have those in the states. Google tells me Black & Decker has the 4-1 sandwich maker as well, so you might want to give that a try. I know that my mom probably kept herself sane by giving me the old school sandwich maker sandwiches some years ago. But this is pretty cool...

Also have you tried soy(ground beef style) tacos. A friend once actually made this for me when I went over for dinner, they had regular meat and gave me this and I was able to dress my taco just like everybody else, mine just didn't have real meat in it.

The brand is Yves.* don't know if you guys have that either*

Try adding cooked broccoli mixed with cheese as a stuffing between them. Makes a great healthy snack for the kids.
