Your life story - From your thumb print ?

I had posted an article in my Tamizh blog. On Adengappa's suggestion, I am posting this on this blog as well..

SUN TV runs a seial called "Chidambara Ragasiyam" based on the "Naadi" astrology method. "Chidambara Ragasiyam" means "The secret from Chidambaram" and "Naadi" literally means "moment of time" !

Just to give you folks an idea of what this "Naadi" Astrology is all about, there are 3000 -5000 year old Palm leaves which have been preserved in a south Indian temple which have generic verses (poems) written in them. They describe in great detail events happening in time for people with various traits. Considering that the Tamizh calendar has 60 years which go on rotation and follow the lunar system, these could technically describe people every 60 years. One can go to these temples and wait in line (sometimes for days) to see if you can find your designated palm leaf !! You can go in person with your horoscope or with just your right thumb print !! They pick a catalog of leaves which pertain to a certain type of thumb print and then ask a few preliminary questions and once they find that the details match yours truly, they go on to read the leaves. There are some special people who are trained to read the leaf since it is written in ancient tamizh and there needs to be some translation to current Tamizh.

Flash back to 1996 : I am in the process of finishing up my studies. I call my parents in India with a calling card from my Lab. As usual (for those times) we started arguing over the phone ! My parents were insisting that I send them my thumb print. At that point in time, I had a healthy hatred for Astrology, Horoscope matching and Astrologers in general, not to mention the arranged marriage since the arranging process was totally stacked up against me (at least in my opinion). I felt at that point that the astrologers were totally incompetent nincompoops who were taking too long to find that girl who was destined for me !!

Just then my Professor walked into the lab. She must have heard me screaming. She is American but, knew a lot about India, Indian culture and Me ! and was(is) a very practical lady. She said, "If it is just a fingerprint, just send it. Why bother arguing with them?"

Which one do they want ? she asks. I am zapped. I am in a daze because I am embarrased about my phone fight going public. I said "I dont know". She says "Well I am glad you only have two thumbs.." She took the ink pad in my Lab, put my thumbprints on a piece of paper, made me write my address on the envelope.
"I will mail this on my way home, now go back to work!!" she said, and disappeared. An important lesson I learnt that day "Do not argue over silly things" and "Never fight with your parents in front of your boss"!!

I did not even bother to check if the fingerprints reached India or not. Almost ten months later I went to India. The trip was abnormally peaceful with no significant progress on the marriage front. When my trip was coming to a close and I was packing for my trip back to the US, I asked my parents "Did you ever get those fingerprints?" .My dad promptly went and got an audio cassette and said "Do you want to hear this?" It was something along the lines of Jack Nicholson saying "you want the truth.. you cant handle the truth!".

To this day, I have never forgotten those 25 minutes in that dark room with my parents, brother and sister where I was sitting speechless. Just that booming voice on the tape, telling me in such vivid detail, my life story, all from my thumb print!! The voice went on to read verse after verse and in translation gave my name, my parents name, number of siblings, number of maternal uncles, my parents occupation, my educational background (metallugy is not your run of the mill guessable degree, mind you. The old tamil word in the verse actually meant blacksmithy, but the translator used the term metallurgy!), my current lifes events, my ideas on marriage, etc., etc.. it was mind boggling! There was even a verse which recreated my entire horoscope with the exact position of the sun, moon and all the major planets at the precise time of my birth!!

The most amazing thing was the statement "Not everyone is blessed with getting to know their destiny! The leaf actually tells you when exactly you get to meet your leaf !! Although, you have found your sons leaf now, he will not realize the contents until he crosses his 25th birthday!" . I had turned 25 a few months before hearing the tape but my parents had heard it almost 7 months back.

Up untill today, nothing on the tape has turned out to be false. I could have said "everything has turned out to be true" but there are some things which are still open ended, so I choose my words carefully.

I do not think about this tape much unless there is some major event in my life or when I watch movies like "Men in Black" or "Matrix".

How is this possible ? Am I just going through the motions of a predetermined sequence of events? I have not been silly enough to try and disprove the tape either because the tape mostly says good things about me or the really bad stuff doesnt start to happen till I am forty!!

Scientifically, this just baffles me. Just truly amazing!! An Indian guy who was raised with a traditional bent of mind, having embrazed the western idealogy of science and scientific discovery, this truly puts things in the twilight zone for me...

Amazing stuff. Same here never used to believe it years ago, slowly starting to think if there is something true in it after all. Who knows

wa, i am not saying it is 100% okay or I support this.. just more fascinating than the local astrologer trying to predict things.

my brother was in the US for a total of 4 months in his entire life. the tape said he was abroad. between the 25th year guess and the brother being abroad the window is a narrow 2 months !!

Sundar,

Could not say anything about these. I have started stopping to believe all these stuff after some personal experience. Anyhow could not arrive to conclusion about this. My imagination goes if this becomes popular, there will be a degree course, in India for this which many of the parents will want their children to study. For which the governments will ask 99.8 percent to score for a set of students. Parents of these graduate boys will be talking proud about their sons having done these in front of Post Offices and banks. More girls parents will be hunting for their sons-in-law to have done this profession. Anyhow, something in store for our future generation...who knows? Imagine top executives of Multi National companies coming to South India and standing beside Arasa Maram or Aala maram waiting for these Josiyars who arrive in Benz and Toyotas and Fords.....

Ive not seen nadi joshiyam coz theres too many counterfeits going around - but i do believe in astrology - to me its actually an ancient science - its all calculations

it got its bad name because of all the bogus men out there - one of the easiest way to determine i guy is bogus would be if he tells you to spend exorbitant money - i probably should write my own experience

ezhudhunga.. ezhudhunga.. balaji sir, visithra, i strongly encourage you to post your experiences on this..

Appa has seen Naadi Josiyam for himself but none of us (amma, anna or his family or myself) have seen it although hearing that at least the past is more or less accurate even if not the future, I feel like going thru the experience of having it read at least once in my lifetime.

Visithra, never thought I would meet you here. What a pleasant surprise!

There are several pages in Forumhub in which we have dealt with Astrology, Nadi Sastra, and Mysticism and Occult Sciences. All these were written more than 4 years ago. Must put up a search.

There is abundant material in Agathiyar Yahoo Groups in Tamil and English. Yahoo is difficult to be searched.

We have already collected 38000 postings. Once we sort them out, we can get a lot of materials in various subjects.

Hey, its nice to know about what u have mentioned about Naadi jothish. I have heard them too. Had a cassete recorded too but did not understand a word of it. I hope there would be somebody to give the tape in english or maybe written format.

I recently encountered the Naadi story twice in the last 2 months and both times it made a significant impact on me.

The first was while reading The Book of Secrets by Deepak Chopra, and the second was on Asia Hour, BBC World Service which ran an entire segment on Naadi.

I would like your opinion regarding the websites purporting to provide on-line Naadi readings, whether or not it is a wise way for someone like me to go about it (I am not from India).

If the answer to the above is No, how do I even begin to get a Naadi reading if I am prepared to fly to India.

Your views and advice will be much appreciated.

my mother saw nadi josiyam in malaysia, the man claims to come from Chidambaram. Im not sure how far it is true, but whatever he said is only past but nothing in future. He took a long time to guess everything correctly.. but at the end demanded that we should buy a Thagade to protect and that will cost about RsX , so we just rejected and paid the amount for seeing the Nadi Josiyam, He charges us RM70(Rs 750).

Hi all, I am from Malaysia. Ever since the early eighties there have been a steady flow of purported naadi joshiyars from Tamil Nadu making their foray into Malaysia. Malaysian Indians are generous and because of their guillible nature these guys take advantage of them. Some of them carry just a bundle weighing less than a kilo and proudly announce that the fate of the entire world's population is in it! I doubt even the latest software technology can beat that!

First things first. The word 'naadi' means 'in search of'. Therefore, it is we who should make the journey to India to have it read. As per the ancient edict, naadi joshyam is useless if it is taken out from its base, let alone cross the seas. It is similar to people making vows to a far off temple (mostly in India)and making it a point to go there against all odds. If we are destined we will make it there, not delivered at your doorstep.

Incidentally, as per your birth chart if your previous birth(s) karmas are bad then as per destiny you will be fleeced by such charlatans. You can call it payback.

Being a firm believer in astrology I sought out a naadi reader in Tiruchi when I went to Tamil Nadu in 1995. I will narrate later of my experiences.

Last but not least, naadi joshyam is for real. If one's karma is good then he or she will be blessed with a genuine reading. This is all I can surmise for the moment. As assured I will post later on my experiences with this 'father of all branches of astrology' later.

Hi Sundar,

Thanks for sharing this with us on your blog. The first time I heard of "Naadi Astrology" and about "Vaideeswaran Koil" back in 1995. Now I am 31 and I am undergoing some major thought process in life and the "Naadi Readings" have become predominant in my mind and guess what...I am exploring the best Naadi Reader from whom I can get accurage & reliable readings. I am based out of USA and exploring some Naadi Reader back in India or anywhere in the world to whom I can send my thump print and other details.

Could you please share the details of the Naadi Reader from whom you got the readings ? Also share with any other Naadi Readers that you are aware of.

Others,
Please help me find a good Naadi Reader.

Thanks in advance for your help,
-- Srinivas.

Hi Sundar,

I finally found a Nadi Reader who helped me located my Nadi Leaf and I got my readings. All this happened via some facilitators on Yahoo Group on this topic. And I came to know about that Yahoo Group when I visited your blog. So, I would say your blog is my landing page in my jounrney towards Spiritualism or this Nadi Astrology.

Thanks a bunch for your blog.

With many thanks,
Srini.

sundar:

i missed this original post, so had not responded.

there is a must read book for any indophile http://www.travelerstales.com/catalog/india/" REL="nofollow">traveler's tales - india. it includes excerpts of novels/books/articles written by travellers to india.

one of the excerpts was about this dude who went to a place in tamil nadu and had his (i think it was a he) complete life history narrated to him (or written out for him, i forget which). he also wrote in the article that the information about his death was also included, and he did not want to know about it (or did not want to share it, i forget which).

bottom line - if you get a chance, read this book. it is really good.

- s.b.

p.s.: (added after reading all the comments) yes, the book mentioned naadi - i'd forgotten the word.
